Bluepoint Games imported most of the original combat data but rerecorded the animations and voice lines with a few of the actors returning. From rings, to weapons and even the Penetrator armor set (shown above), though the latter is a bit tricky to obtain. This unorthodox weapon deals both Physical and Magic damage, giving it various damage types to exploit enemy weaknesses. This is also one of the few weapons capable of two S Ranks in damage scaling with both Strength and Dexterity.
But I was always a little afraid of tackling it because it’s so beloved. It wasn’t until we redefined what a remake was with Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 4 that we felt that we could take on the challenge of Demon’s Souls and do it justice. Leaked via the forum’s members and admin, who “have it on good authority,” this could mean it never launches for PC, at least not in this generation.
Moving to the rings, go for Cling Ring and Regenerator’s Ring. For the primary weapon and shield, choose Estoc and Dark Silver Shield, and the secondary slot is equipped with Heavy Crossbow and Parrying Dagger. This build uses the Ring of Great Strength and Cling Ring with Short Spear and Large Brushwood Shield as primary weapon and defense, while Silver Catalyst and Heavy Crossbow are the equipment in the secondary slot.

It being exclusive to one platform likely helped the developers focus on optimizing the experience. Retooling and improving animations can be a tricky prospect, especially for a game like Demon’s Souls where players enjoy the specific way that combat feels. Thankfully Bluepoint Games was able to update these animations without them drastically affected the feel or cadence of combat in a detrimental way. They knew that they were in charge of bringing the game into 2020 and not changing the fundamental things that made Demon’s Souls the cult hit that it was back on the PS3 when it was released in 2009.
In the process, it also manages to get everyone excited about the potential of next-gen console gaming. It’s the best next-gen launch game and a damn good entry into the Soulslike genre. The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls is, in the ways that matter most, the best version of the game, but that still leaves us with the question of why you should care about Demon’s Souls in the first place.
Music is often a part of game’s that holds up to time the best, but in this case, it was mostly about providing higher-quality cleaner audio which can happen in modern game development thanks to the advancement of technology. Most players likely won’t notice as good audio should go unnoticed due to it feeling seamless, but this is an improvement for the better in the remake which makes the game feel a bit more modern in 2020 and beyond. All of this is true for Bluepoint’s remake, which largely stays true to the spirit of the original Demon’s Souls, both for better and for worse.
Demon’s Souls Remake: Boss Souls – What Are They Used For?
Another reason why this weapon is so strong is how easy it is to get. 777X can simply pick this weapon off a corpse near the Vanguard boss very early into your adventures, giving you an extremely powerful tool for dealing with the first few Demon’s Souls bosses. With the right Infusions, you can make the Kilij even stronger and take it far further into the later stages of the game than you may expect. Obtainable in area 4-1, as you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Ashen One, you only need to defeat the Phalanx boss from level 1-1 to gain access to this weapon.
This will lead you in front of the big iron gate at the beginning of the level. In case you missed it earlier, head to the west section where you previously obtained the Cling Ring, and you will find two corpses by the unlocked iron gates to loot the following. Old Raggedy Robes, Old Raggedy Gloves, Old Raggedy Boots, and x2 Aged Spice on one body and x1 Jade Hair Ornament on the other. Be ready to face two Dreglings, one on your left and one on your right. [newline]Continue traveling until you reach a corpse that can be looted for x4 Pine Resin. Get back and now head right, you will follow a corridor until you reach a seemingly dead end.
The spectacle of seeing this massive creature, while dramatic in the original game, is now astounding. The Demon’s Souls remake’s visual fidelity, its immersive sound effects and score, and the haptic feedback from the DualSense controller together convey the scale of a giant beast tearing through the atmosphere above me. And when I bring down my sword on this demon, I feel the thundercrack reverberate through my hands and my ears as the screen shakes violently. It is worth remembering, however, that the soul of the boss alone is not enough to create weapons. You simply transform a certain type of weapon using the boss’s soul.
Those changes should help balance the game’s difficulty and improve player-versus-player battles, where fans could quickly consume vast amounts of healing items, dragging out multiplayer brawls. These include two armor sets, a shield, sword, and a lot of “free” Souls. Whether these items will remain exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition or make it into the regular editions of the remake is not yet known.
